Impact of Early Loss of Lower First Permanent Molars on Third Molar Development and Position

Objective:  To evaluate the effects of unilateral loss lower first permanent molar (L6) on position and development third (L8) .  Material Methods:  Fifty-four panoramic radiographs subjects with L6 were examined. The L8 side was compared in hemiarch without (contralateral). effect positioning examined all samples (n=54), whereas 38 patients incomplete root formation. Signs statistical test used to comparison between contralateral hemiarches.  Results: In 20 (37%) 54 subjects, better positioned (p<0.001) control side. remaining 34 no difference found. When only considered as impacted (n=30), cases increased 66.6% Conclusion:  The molars improves during its active eruption, mainly when is impacted. However, does not affect molars.
